Weekly timesheets built on Jira's own worklogs, with approvals and billable-hours export. It runs entirely on Atlassian, so there's no outside server to go down.
Why "native"?
Real Jira worklogs, logged as the person. Every hour you enter is an ordinary Jira worklog under your own name, so Jira search, filters and native time reports keep working. Uninstall the app and all your time stays in Jira.
Runs on Atlassian. The app is built on Atlassian Forge and is eligible for the Runs on Atlassian programme. Your data never leaves your Atlassian site, and there are no external servers of ours to go down.
No pop-ups, no upsell banners. The app gets out of your way.
Features
Weekly timesheet grid. Type 1.5, 1:30 or 1h 30m in a cell and the worklog is created, updated or deleted for you. Tab moves to the next cell. You can copy last week's rows in one click.
Submit and approve. People submit their week. Approvers approve or return it with a note. Approved weeks are locked. If anyone edits worklogs after a week was submitted, the week is flagged.
Issue sidebar. See your hours on an issue for the week, and log time without leaving the issue.
Reports. Hours, billable hours and billable value by project and by person, for any date range up to 62 days. Quick ranges cover this week, last week, this month, last month and the last 30 days.
Exports. A detailed CSV (one line per worklog), plus a Xero sales-invoice CSV that creates one draft invoice per client, ready for Xero's invoice import.
Billable projects. Admins mark projects as billable and set an hourly rate and client name for each.
Reminders. An optional weekly email reminds people who logged time but didn't submit.
Getting started
Install Native Timesheets for Jira from the Atlassian Marketplace.
A Jira admin opens Apps → Manage apps → Native Timesheets settings and does three things:
picks the approvers (if none are set, Jira administrators approve);
marks which projects are billable, with an hourly rate and the client name;
optionally, sets the currency, weekly target hours and Xero export defaults.
Everyone opens Apps → Native Timesheets, adds the issues they worked on, types their hours and clicks Submit week.
Approvers use the Approvals tab. Reports and exports are under Reports & export, and on each project's Native Timesheets tab.
How it works
Typing hours into the grid
Each cell is one issue on one day.
The cell was empty: typing hours creates a worklog at 09:00 your time.
You already have one worklog there: typing a new number updates it, and clearing the cell deletes it.
You have several worklogs that day: a dot shows in the cell. You can raise the total, which adds a worklog for the difference. To lower it, edit the worklogs on the issue itself.
Worklogs keep Jira's own estimate tracking up to date.
Approvals
A submitted week is read-only in the grid; recall it to edit it again. Approvers can approve it, which locks it, or reject it with a note, which reopens it for changes. Jira still lets people edit worklogs directly on an issue. If they do after a week is submitted, the week shows Changed since submit.
Who sees what
The app uses each person's own Jira permissions.
Everyone sees their own time.
Approvers and Jira admins see team approvals and team-wide reports, limited to the projects they can browse.
Only Jira admins can change settings.
Exporting to Xero
In Reports & export, choose a date range and click Export Xero invoices. The CSV has one draft invoice per client, with one line per issue and person. Quantity is the billable hours and the unit price is the project rate. In Xero, go to Sales → Invoices → Import.
The tax rate name and account code come from settings, and must match your Xero organisation. After importing, raise Next invoice number in settings so the next export doesn't reuse numbers.
FAQ
What happens to our time if we uninstall?
Nothing is lost. All time is ordinary Jira worklogs. Only the app's own records are removed: approvals, settings and pinned rows.
Does it work with Jira's built-in time tracking?
Yes. It is Jira's built-in time tracking, with a faster way to enter time, plus approvals and billing on top.
Where is our data stored?
In your Atlassian site and Atlassian's Forge platform. See the privacy policy.
